March is coming quickly and with it warmer weather. It's time to finish those winter projects and start on the ones for summer. We have great new yarns from Rowan: new colors in Revive and a worsted tape yarn called Savannah with its own book and a fantastic vest already knit for you to try on. Pam and Tina are both knitting a terrific cabled tunic out of the Rowan wool Renew, but the patterns will work for the new bulkier cottons coming in too.

I'm knitting on a Chris Bylsma pattern called Lakeside and it's knit using a dk yarn on a larger needle so it will stay cool (hopefully?) with me as warmer weather arrives. There is a back of a sweater (also started fronts at home) knit in Classic Elite Chesapeake yarn. Faye has just finished the Open Cardi pattern from Classic Elite and it's in the shop. Great cardigan for year round wearing here.

Two new Noro books have arrived as well as two from Rowan with their best patterns ... and a Plus Knit book with designs guaranteed to flatter.... just to name a few of the newest arrivals.

More coming in on a regular basis...

We participated in the 2nd Sunday event on King Street on the 13th, and it was great fun. The weather was beautiful and we had shoppers on the street (where we set up our table) as well as in the shop. Please know that there is a free parking voucher on line for the garages for this event. We will try to continue this event with the other merchants as long as the weather is beautiful... Sarah and William were on the street giving away patterns and selling discounted yarns and offering to teach newbies to knit. Look for this event to continue in March on the 13th again.

Our back room was reduced to 50% off for Valentine's Day Specials (which we created for ourselves.) We will leave the room at this reduced rate for your continued enjoyment. There are several great yarns which the vendors have discontinued for next year so we have done the same. The selections are good with large quantities in some of the yarns while supplies last. It's a great time to stock up on yarns for scarves for next year's presents or a new accessory for yourself.

Classes for March are stacking up.

Faye will continue with her squares class on Thursday from 1-3 and you can jump in whenever you want to come. Each week is a new pattern and your scarf can start wherever you join in -- or you can come and knit one square and make a georgeous pillow. Our first squares class put their squares together and made a blanket. Current class memebers are making a scarf and everyone has chosen different yarns and different colors so each is "one of a kind."

Sarah's Kollage Knit-a-long for March is a lace scarf. It's a great way to learn to read charts and get started on a scarf for spring. The yarn is called 1/2 and 1/2 because it's made of milk and wool. It's really soft and has fantastic stitch definition for showing off your lacey knitting skills. Sarah has already started the shop sample and says that there are several different types of decreases in the pattern so that's a bonus learning experience. Once again this class will be on Saturday afternoons from 3-5.

Lace is the theme for the month.

Classic Elite sponsored a knit-along last year and there are many of you who have a wonderful firefly scarf. This year we are knitting with firefly again and a new book called Meadow has the pattern inside. This classic elite group will meet on Wednesday nights with Sarah and we hope to have another group picture sooooon. Come and see the new colors of this yarn that have arrived. -----

One of the most adored samples is a yellow shrug knit out of Sublime bamboo. It's merely a rectangle that's sewn up on the ends for your arms. Lynn taught a shrug class last year that also involved picking up stitches around the neck for a ruffled edge. Sarah knit the yellow shrug last year and we have several great patterns which are worked with this same method. Come and pick out your pattern and Sarah will be here on Wednesday nights from 5-7 to help anyone who has joined in this lacey shrug knit-a-long.

There are also two more beginner type classes if you aren't ready to read a chart and knit lace. I have completed a vest which is knit in garter stitch (all you have to do is knit).. You can learn to make button holes and follow a pattern since you can knit in one piece until you reach the armholes... Any worsted weight yarn will work so you can knit for any type of weather. I knit mine out of Noro and used one of several colors. Mine matches anything.... Class will begin on Tuesday, March the first at 2 pm. You can start anytime this month, but please call ahead so we can add you to the list.

Sarah is going to teach the magic loop method of knitting in the round. If you are one of those customers who hates double pointed needles --- then this is the class for you. The magic loop can be used for anything that you knit in the round. Sarah is teaching this method to knit fingerless gloves. The cost of the class is $20 and this includes a ball of yarn, pattern, and instructions as well as Sarah's expert assistance. All you need is a set of needles in an 8, 9, or 10 which are 32 inches long or longer. The yarn calls for a 9 and you can go up or down depending on your regular knitting tension. This class will be on Wednesday, March 9th at 4 pm and one class should be sufficient for this project.

Remember: Beginner Class 100 (learn to cast on and knit) every Wednesday night at 5:00 or Beginner Class 101 (purl and cast off) for $20. AND private lessons are always available for $20 an hour for whatever type of help you might need. Please call ahead and schedule your "help session" so we can be sure that some one is available to help with your project.
