I have been to the cooler weather in the mountains and it's time to get back in gear with knitting classes and yarn shopping. Faye has headed to the cooler Santa Fe for a month and I'm jealous.

We will continue to be open later on Wednesday nights for shoppers and classes. If you read "Friday Night Knitting Club" you know what a KAL at YLYS means. (Knit along with others at your local yarn shop). Sarah Howard is working with Kollage yarns and an new selection every month. These are fun, quick projects - great for holiday giving while learning new skills. Kits are available while they last for each project. August was a hat and cowl and September is a button up cowl with decorative stitches. Please call ahead since class kits are limited. Class is from 5-7 on Wednesday night and also from 10-12 that same morning.
September 1/15/and 29.
Class is $60 and this includes the kit and Sarah's instruction. Next month is a design called "Walking the Dog" created by Zimmerman. That class is $70 or you may sign up for both for $110 and save $20. This is really a "deal" since lessons run $20 per hour and you get 6 hours for the September class ($120 value for $60 and the yarn is included)

September is the month for socks and beginner sock class will meet on Wednesday from 3-5. Class will knit a sock using double pointed needles in the "traditional method". We will cast on and begin the ribbing on Wed/Sept 8th, turn the heel of Wednesday the 22nd, and head to the toe and completion on the 6th of October.
Sock class is $75 for the three sessions. You will need to purchase yarn and needles. The pattern is also included in this price. Great way to start a new obsession.

Sarah Howard will teach the magic loop method of "knitting in the round" while knitting a Christmas stocking. Tina Hadden taught this class last fall and it was great fun. You only have to knit one sock this way. Please call ahead and you should have knit a "traditional sock" before attempting this class. Sarah will teach on Saturday from 11-1 September 11, 25, and finish up on October the 9th. This sock is taught using a worsted weight yarn. Class cost is $75.00

September is also the month to learn the "correct" way to knit a sweater. We will be following Margaret Fisher's book: Seven Things that can Make or Break a Sweater. This is a fantastic book for new knitters to learn basics and for those of us who have been knitting for quite some time to "learn" the right way to knit. THe book iws $24.95 and we will knit a baby sized sweater together. You can knit it for some one that you know or we can donate to a local charity or hospital. Class will meet on Thursday mornings from 11-1. We will begin on Thursday the 9th of September and meet on a regular basis as we move through the book and the techniques. The book has seven techniques to master and we can determine how quickly we want to move through the process. You must purchase this wonderful book in order to take the class so please call ahead so that we can order enough books for everyone. The cost of the class will be $20 for every two hour meeting which is half price. Ms. Fisher used 2 skeins of Cascade 200 to knit her sweater and although this wool yarn isn't the softest - wool is the most forgiving to knit with when you make mistakes. Please put this on your calendar if you have ever wanted to leave scarves and knit a sweater.

Carol Bennett has just finished a lacey wool wrap and has offered to teach a class on reading charts. This is a great beginner lace class because the yarn isn't as thin as most yarn classes. Her sample is in the shop and it's wonderful. I can't wait for the weather to get cool enough to warrant this garment. She has limited her class size to 8 so hurry and sign up if this appeals to you. There are pictures on our web site of Sarah and Carol modeling this design. Class dates are September 22, October 6, and October 20th from 5-7. This class is $60 which is once again half price the cost of individual instruction.

It's was great fun having beginners in the June knitting camp. July knitters have learned how to purl, pick up stitches, and felt a bag. August campers will learn to increase and decrease and knit a hat. Please call the shop if you want to come to camp in August.

Labor Day is right around the corner and KNIT has a special sale beginning Wednesday the first of September and will run through the week-end. Lots of specials throughout the store as well as additional mark-downs.

We have new shipments coming in on a regular basis. Today's deliveries were from Blue Heron and Namaste. Blue Heron has yummy yarns that are quite unusual: metallic rayon, bulky rayon chenille, and beaded wool. Namaste has new hip holster bags and we also received the messenger bags (great for knitting or your laptop) and some small pouches. Who know what tomorrow might bring??

Summer Camp with Wendy was lots of fun and the children (and cute adults) learned alot and had a wonderful time. They knit a hat and felted a bag. Wendy designed the patterns for the hat and bag and both are available with the purchase of yarn. Come and check out these accessories.

We have a new display of small projects hanging in front of the register. Fast and fun items to knit for the holidays. Sarah has designed an ipod carrier and once again the pattern is free with yarn purchase.

Lynn knit an "arrowhead" scarf out of Schaeffer's Susan. This cotton yarn is almost gone, but the pattern would be fantastic in any worsted weight yarn. Come pick up this free pattern with yarn purchase.

Please remember that we offer private instruction for $20 an hour. We can help you with most anything with enough advance planning. Please call and set up an appointment to start a new project, learn a new skill, or finish a project that needs help getting completed. If there are any classes we have offered and you can't work out the dates and times then please call and we will try to work around your schedule. If there is anything that you would like to see us offer as a class then please let us know and we will also try to work that out. Needless to say it's hard working with all of our busy schedules, but the best way to improve your knitting skills is to knit along with others. It's a great way to be sure that you see your best friends (schedule classes together) and to meet and make new ones.

Look for the next email with sale information about the upcoming Labor Day Event.

Single sheet patterns will continue to be 50% off so it's a wonderful time to come and pick out your newest fall project.

Pattern "pamphlets" on the wall are 25% off this month. This does not include the newest editions from the various vendors. Lots of others to choose from - and it's always fun to buy them for less especially if you wanted just "one pattern" and couldn't rationalize buying the whole booklet. Come in while selections are still good.

We, at KNIT, understand the economy crunch and hope that our price reductions help you continue to enjoy knitting since it's proven to be a stress reducer and a wonderful way to decrease the aging process since we're using the right and left sides of the brain.
Who knew we could have this much fun with a yarn obsession.

Remember: Beginner Class 100 (learn to cast on and knit) every Wednesday night at 5:00 or Beginner Class 101 (purl and cast off) for $20.
